Dilaudid is formulated as oral tablets and liquid, rectal suppository, intra-muscular (buttock or hip muscle) injection, and intravenous (I.V.) solution. Dilaudid is approximately 8 times more potent on a milligram basis than morphine. Dilaudid inhibits the ascending pain pathways in the central nervous system, increases the pain threshold and alters pain perception. Dilaudid is often called "drug store heroin" on the streets. | |
